08/08/2025, 10:19In Kyrgyzstan, cars with foreign license plates must be legalized by October 1, 2025, the State Agency for Vehicle Registration has reminded. The campaign has been underway since April 1 in accordance with a decree issued by President Sadyr Zhaparov.
The legalization applies to cars imported into the country before December 31, 2024, that have not passed customs clearance and do not have title documents. They will be assigned numbers from the 10th region, but they cannot be sold, taken abroad, or used as taxis.
As of the morning of August 8, there were 7,056 such cars registered in the country. Most of them are in the Chui region (1,867), Bishkek (1,670), and the Jalal-Abad region (1,012). There are 4,181 cars with an engine capacity of up to 2,000 cc and 2,875 with an engine capacity of over 2,000 cc.
The agency urges owners not to delay registration and to contact the relevant departments in advance to complete the procedure.
