Experts noted that in recent years, the amount of water in Issyk-Kul has decreased significantly. Among the reasons are global warming, reduced precipitation, melting glaciers, and the not always rational use of water. All this affects not only the lake itself, but also the ecology of the entire region.
At the meeting, participants discussed how to stop this process. Among the solutions are the modernization of irrigation systems, greening of the shores and increasing humidity, the development of scientific research, and the adaptation of agriculture to new climatic conditions.
“Issyk-Kul is not just a beautiful lake. It affects the climate, nature, economy, and tourism. If the water level continues to decline, both nature and people will suffer. Saving the lake is our common task,” said Bakyt Torobaev.
Following the meeting, government agencies were instructed to prepare specific steps. The main goal is to respond more quickly and effectively to environmental changes and protect one of the country's main natural resources.
