An employee of the Kara-Kul sector was detained for illegally registering motor vehicles

The State Committee for National Security (GKNB), together with the leadership of the State Agency for Vehicle Registration, has uncovered corruption violations in the vehicle registration system.

During the investigation, it was established that a specialist from the Kara-Kul sector of the agency was illegally registering trucks imported into the country in violation of current customs regulations in exchange for money.

The detained employee registered trucks that were allegedly imported from Russia, but in fact the vehicles had been cleared through customs in Kazakhstan. There, in accordance with the so-called Burabay Protocol, a reduced import duty rate of 10% applies, and such vehicles are recognized as conditionally released. This means that they cannot be registered in another EAEU country (including Kyrgyzstan) without paying customs duties again and confirming their status as “EAEU goods.”

In addition, the aforementioned employee, in violation of vehicle registration rules, illegally converted cargo vans into passenger minibuses during the initial registration of vehicles in exchange for monetary compensation.

A criminal case has been initiated based on the facts revealed, the specialist of the Kara-Kul sector of the State Customs Service of the Republic of Tajikistan has been detained, and an investigation is underway.
