11/06/2026, 11:24Kyrgyzstan’s economic development should be evaluated not only by growth in gross domestic product and bank capital, but also by households’ financial capabilities. Former Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov made this statement on November 6 at the FinConference 2026.
According to him, it is important for citizens to know how long it takes a family to save enough to buy a home, how accessible it is for them to start their own business, educate their children, and build savings.
Zaparov noted that the country’s financial capabilities have expanded significantly over the years of independence. Whereas previously one of the state’s main tasks was to secure funds for current expenditures, including pensions, the effective use of available resources has now come to the forefront.
In his view, the state should create favorable conditions for investment and entrepreneurship, banks should provide reliable financial services, and the law should equally protect the property of every citizen regardless of the political situation.
He also emphasized that citizens must not be forced to relinquish property that belongs to them.
Zhaparov added that the growth of the state’s financial capabilities should be directed toward strengthening citizens’ financial stability and their confidence in the future.
