09/11/2024, 09:34Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Bakytzhan Sagintayev, held talks with Salman Al-Farsi, Secretary General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), at the headquarters of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on September 10. The parties discussed a series of international interaction issues of mutual interest and considered prospective areas of cooperation between the EEC and IORA. Sagintayev emphasized that the Eurasian Economic Commission aims to establish direct interaction with regional associations. The Head of the EEC Board expressed confidence that inter-integration cooperation is intended to improve economic connectivity not only on the Eurasian continent but also on a more global scale. "Today, the Commission continues to consistently develop dialogue with key regional integration and interstate associations," Sagintayev highlighted. "Our goal is to exchange best practices in this field." One of the promising areas of possible cooperation mentioned was dialogue through business circles to strengthen economic ties between the countries involved. Special attention was given to discussing a financial assistance mechanism for industrial cooperation within the EAEU, similar to the one operating within the Indian Ocean Rim Association. Following the negotiations, Sagintayev and Al-Farsi agreed to maintain working contacts to establish strong business relations in the future. The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is an intergovernmental organization initiated by the Republic of South Africa to enhance regional cooperation and sustainable development among Indian Ocean countries. The organization includes Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Yemen, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mozambique, UAE, Oman, Seychelles, Singapore, Somalia, Comoros, Thailand, Tanzania, France (Réunion), Sri Lanka, and South Africa. "Today, the Commission continues to consistently develop dialogue with key regional integration and interstate associations," Sagintayev emphasized. "Our goal is to exchange best practices in this field."
