    Former Minister of Natural Resources Dinara Kutmanova sentenced to 8 years in prison

    The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek passed a guilty verdict on former Minister of Natural Resources Dinara Kutmanova (K.D.A.). According to the court decision, she was found guilty of committing an offence, in particular, exceeding her official powers with causing grave consequences.

    The court sentenced her to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold public office for 3 years. The measure of restraint against Dinara Kutmanova in the form of detention was left unchanged.

    In addition, K.K.S., a co-defendant in the case, was found guilty under article 209, part 4, paragraph 1, of the Criminal Code (fraud committed by an organised group or causing particularly large damage). He was sentenced to 8 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to engage in individual entrepreneurial activity for 3 years. The measure of restraint against K.K.S. was also left unchanged.

    This court decision was related to a case of abuse of office and embezzlement of funds, which caused significant damage to the State. The investigation revealed facts of unlawful activities carried out through manipulation of state resources and contracts.

    The judgement may be appealed against on appeal within the statutory period.
