Tea in Kyrgyzstan has risen in price by almost 50% over five years.

Black tea rose in price to 108.78 KGS per kilogram, green tea to 77.27 KGS. Over five years, prices for the favourite beverage have increased by almost half, while imports have gradually declined. This is evidenced by data from the National Statistics Committee.

From 2020 to 2025, the price of a kilogram of black tea rose from 73.21 KGS to 108.78 KGS, an increase of 35.57 KGS (48.6%). Green tea increased by 23.08 KGS, with its price changing from 54.19 to 77.27 KGS (42.6%).

In 2025, the republic imported 5,255 tonnes of tea worth 656.16 million KGS ($7.53 million). The average cost per tonne was $1,433.67 (or $1.43 per kilogram).

The main supplier was Kazakhstan, from which 3,607.6 tonnes of tea were imported, followed by Sri Lanka with 493 tonnes, China with 388.5 tonnes, Russia with 325.1 tonnes and Kenya with 277 tonnes. As it turned out, we import the most expensive tea from Russia — $6.1 per kilogram, followed by Sri Lanka — $1.9 per kilogram, Kenya – $1.8 per kilogram, then China – $1.3 per kilogram, and we buy the cheapest tea in Kazakhstan – $0.8 per kilogram.

For comparison, in 2024, imports amounted to 6,742 tonnes at 646.14 million KGS ($7.35 million). The average price per tonne was $1,093.6 (1.09 per kilogram).
