Officials of the National Academy of Sciences illegally leased state-owned premises

The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan has uncovered a corruption scheme at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS of Kyrgyzstan). It has been revealed that some NAS officials illegally leased state-owned premises to entrepreneurs, receiving money outside the accounting system — simply to enrich themselves. An investigation is currently underway to calculate the amount of damage caused to the state.

In addition, the audit revealed that about 20 properties belonging to the NAS had been illegally transferred to private ownership throughout the country. A separate plot of land in the center of Bishkek, which was formally considered ownerless due to the lack of documents, is now officially registered to the NAS — the plot covers an area of almost 3.4 hectares.

The State Committee for National Security continues to monitor the situation and bring order to state property and its privatization. The agency promises not to ignore such violations and to restore legality.
