Coca-Cola aims to use less water to produce each liter of beverage

Reducing water consumption in beverage production is one of Coca-Cola’s global priorities. This was stated by Kazumasa Mukae, CEO of The Coca-Cola Company Uzbekistan, while speaking at Technovision in Tashkent.

According to him, innovation in the beverage industry encompasses not only the development of new flavors and the expansion of product lines, but also the improvement of production processes. One area of focus in this effort is the more efficient use of water.

“We use water to manufacture our products. At the same time, our global goal is to reduce the amount of water required to produce each liter of beverage,” said Mukae.

Thus, the company aims to reduce water consumption per unit of output.

Mukae emphasized that, despite the perception of the beverage industry as a mature market, innovation remains an important part of its development. The company launches new flavors and products under the Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Sprite brands, and as markets evolve, it expands its presence in other categories, including water and juices.

In his view, three conditions are necessary for investing in innovation:

  • supportive government policies and regulations;
  • investment in professional development;
  • an understanding of consumer needs.

Financial resources alone are not enough—people capable of developing and implementing new solutions play a crucial role.

“Ultimately, innovations must solve a problem for the consumer, customer, or user,” noted the head of The Coca-Cola Company Uzbekistan.

He added that companies that become too focused on internal processes and stop listening to consumers face a serious obstacle to further growth.
