A delegation from the Chamber of Independent Directors of the Kyrgyz Republic studied CAIER's ESG practices in Almaty

On February 20, a delegation from the Chamber of Independent Directors of Kyrgyzstan visited the Central Asian Institute for Environmental Research (CAIER) in Almaty. The visit was closed to the public and focused on sharing practices in corporate governance and ESG—environmental, social, and governance standards.

During the meeting, CAIER representatives demonstrated the institute's infrastructure, including energy-efficient solutions used in the operation of the building, as well as laboratory developments. Of particular interest were innovative building materials made from waste and their potential for sustainable construction and the development of a circular economy.

As noted by the participants, ESG is gradually transforming from an image-building tool into a mandatory component of the management system — from strategic planning and risk management to disclosure of information and work with stakeholders.

Following the negotiations, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document provides for the joint implementation of educational and expert projects — conducting webinars, seminars, and conferences, developing methodological materials, as well as launching research and certification programs for professional directors and experts.

Seitek Dushenaliev, President of the Chamber of Independent Directors of the Kyrgyz Republic, emphasized the importance of studying regional experience and expanding professional dialogue.

"We are pleased to see CAIER actively working to improve our environment, and I am confident that there are members of the Chamber who will certainly be interested in your work. I hope this will become the basis for further fruitful cooperation," said Seitek Dushenaliev, President of the Chamber of Independent Directors of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In turn, CAIER founder Asel Tasmagambetova noted that the institute has been working on sustainable development issues for more than 14 years and is ready to share its accumulated expertise.

As part of the visit, the delegation also visited the Shokan Ualikhanov Private School in Almaty, where the educational model is built around the principles of human capital development and environmental thinking. The school practices project-based learning formats, and students participate in competitions and receive grants to implement “green” initiatives.

Thus, the visit of the PND KR to CAIER signals the expansion of regional cooperation in the field of corporate governance and sustainable development. ESG in Central Asia is gradually becoming institutionalized, both at the business level and in the educational environment, forming a long-term agenda for the region's management community.
