MP proposes tougher penalties for online fraud

A draft resolution aimed at strengthening measures to combat fraudulent crimes committed using modern digital technologies has been proposed in the Zhogorku Kenesh. The document was initiated by MP Mederbek Aliyev.

The document proposes the development of legal and organisational mechanisms aimed at preventing, detecting and suppressing crimes such as internet fraud, phishing, cyber attacks and illegal access to bank data.

According to the explanatory note to the draft, in recent years there has been an increase in crimes committed remotely using the Internet and mobile applications. Such acts cause serious harm to citizens and pose a threat to stability in society.
The draft resolution provides for increased liability for crimes in the field of information technology, systematic analysis of the situation in the banking sector, improvement of legislation, and coordination of actions between law enforcement agencies, banks and the IT sector.

The initiative pays particular attention to the protection of citizens' personal data and improving digital literacy among the population. The importance of information campaigns to warn citizens about the risks and teach them to recognise threats is emphasised.

According to the initiators, the adoption of this resolution will create a safer digital environment in Kyrgyzstan and ensure the reliable protection of citizens' interests in the context of rapidly developing technologies.
