The dollar remains stable, the euro rises: how the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan’s exchange rates have changed over the week

The official US dollar exchange rate remained virtually unchanged over the week, whilst the euro continued to strengthen. The Russian rouble and the Kazakh tenge, by contrast, depreciated significantly. This is according to data from the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan.

At the end of the week, the dollar exchange rate remained stable. Whilst it stood at 87.4488 som on 13 July, by 17 July it had risen only to 87.4500 som, an increase of just 0.0012 som.

The euro showed the greatest increase among the major currencies. Over the week, its exchange rate rose from 99.9584 to 100.2658 som, exceeding the 100-som mark for the first time in several days. The increase amounted to 0.3074 som.

The Chinese yuan also strengthened slightly. Its official exchange rate rose from 12.9012 to 12.9214 som, an increase of 0.0202 som.

Meanwhile, the Russian rouble recorded the most significant decline. Over the week, it fell from 1.1452 to 1.1239 som, losing 0.0213 som, or almost 1.9%.

The exchange rate of the Kazakh tenge also fell — from 0.1884 to 0.1851 som. Over the week, the currency lost 0.0033 som, corresponding to a fall of approximately 1.75%.

On the Kyrgyz currency market, the week passed without any significant fluctuations in the dollar, but the euro continued to strengthen, whilst the rouble and the tenge came under pressure from the som.
