07/19/2026, 15:49President Sadyr Zhaparov has stated that foreign nationals and companies are still not permitted to acquire land as freehold property in Kyrgyzstan.
As Sadyr Zhaparov explained in an interview with the Kabar news agency, current legislation only allows foreign investors to lease land for a fixed term. Ownership of the land remains with the state, and the new amendments merely strengthen oversight of the fulfilment of investment obligations.
The statement came against the backdrop of active discussions regarding amendments to the Land Code.
The long-term lease mechanism has been used in the country for many years in the implementation of major investment projects.
