Implementation Progress of the Second Turbine Unit at Kambarata-2 HPP

Work continues at Kambarata HPP-2 on the installation of a second hydro unit, which will be an important step in the development of Kyrgyzstan's energy sector. The plant was originally designed to operate with three units of 120 MW each. At the moment, only the first one is in operation, and the launch of the second one will significantly increase the volume of electricity generation.

To implement the project, a tender was announced, divided into three lots: supply of equipment, installation of transmission lines and construction of HPP infrastructure. In October 2024, the opening of bids took place, with companies from Russia, China, Turkey, India, Korea and Kyrgyzstan taking part. The bid evaluation process is now underway and is being conducted jointly with the Eurasian Fund for Stabilisation and Development, Electric Power Plants JSC and Fichtner, the project's consultant.

The launch of the second hydro unit is expected to improve the reliability of the country's energy supply and reduce the shortage of electricity, which is especially important in the context of the growing load on the energy system. Implementation of the project also contributes to strengthening energy security and creating favourable conditions for further development of the industry.
