During an inspection of the temporary Western Bus Station, the Mayor of Bishkek met with drivers and listened to their problems and suggestions. Following the meeting, the head of the capital gave specific instructions to the relevant services.
The UPSM under the Bishkek City Police Department was instructed to strengthen measures against taxi drivers engaged in illegal passenger transportation and to conduct raids at the bus station and adjacent areas.
The mayor placed key emphasis on licensing. According to him, priority in issuing licences will be given to drivers who work legally and provide intercity transport services specifically through the temporary Western Bus Station.
At the same time, the municipality has taken a tough stance on illegal carriers. Drivers who continue to transport passengers illegally are advised not to issue licences until their activities are fully brought into line with the law.
Thus, the city authorities have clearly defined the rule. Legal work means access to a licence. Illegal transport means a direct path to restrictions.
