Funding for research in Kyrgyzstan has increased by 50% over five years

Every November, Kyrgyzstan celebrates Science Day, a holiday established in 2002 to recognize the contribution of domestic scientists to the country's development. Today, science is becoming an increasingly important part of the economy: in 2024, the state budget for research and development reached 893 million KGS, which is 50% more than in 2020.

The National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan employs 1,315 specialists, including 129 doctors and 256 candidates of science. Almost half of the researchers are women, and the total number of people involved in scientific and technical activities in the country exceeds 8,000. Most of the work — about 55% — is carried out in the academic sector, which underscores the key role of state institutions in developing intellectual potential.

The growth in investment in science has been accompanied by an increase in the number of graduate and doctoral students, whose total number has reached 3,000. The greatest interest is observed in the medical, educational, and legal fields. Experts note that strengthening scientific potential directly affects the quality of human resources and the innovative competitiveness of the Kyrgyz economy.
