10/18/2025, 14:35Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev reviewed the progress of the project to reconstruct and modernize municipal wastewater treatment plants. The capital's mayor was presented with the current stages of construction, shown the work that has been completed, and told about further plans to renovate the facility.
The treatment facilities are the only station serving Bishkek and nearby settlements. The complex was commissioned in the 1970s and provides a full cycle of wastewater treatment. Over decades of operation, the equipment has become significantly outdated, and no major repairs have been carried out previously.
The project is being implemented as a public-private partnership between the Bishkek City Hall, the municipal enterprise Bishkekvodokanal, and the joint venture SFC-JV, created with the participation of the Vietnamese companies SFC Investment Development for Environment Corporation and Phu Dien Joint Stock Company. The total contract value is approximately $56 million.
The reconstruction involves the installation of energy-efficient equipment, the introduction of modern technologies, and the full automation of processes. This will improve the quality of wastewater treatment and ensure the stable operation of the system in the long term.
Aibek Junushaliyev noted the importance of high-quality and timely completion of all stages of work, and also instructed to consider issues of improvement and rational use of the territory of the treatment facilities.
In addition, he visited the motor depot of the Bishkekvodokanal municipal enterprise and gave instructions on the improvement of the enterprise's territory.
