12/06/2025, 09:01A meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev and Pakistan's Minister of Energy Sardar Aways Ahmed Khan Leghari took place in Islamabad. The talks were held as part of President Sadyr Zhaparov's state visit to Pakistan on December 3–4.
The talks focused on strengthening cooperation in the energy sector, including the key regional project CASA-1000.
The parties confirmed their commitment to the further development of the CASA-1000 project, which is designed to ensure the transfer of surplus electricity from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan in the summer and reciprocal supplies in the winter. This mechanism makes the project one of the most important elements of regional energy security.
The following areas of cooperation within the framework of CASA-1000 were discussed:
The ministers also considered the prospects for exchanging experience in the construction and operation of hydropower plants, implementing joint projects in the field of renewable energy sources, and attracting skilled labor from Pakistan for energy projects in Kyrgyzstan.
Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of energy was signed between the ministries of the two countries.
