Ibraev proposed that Chinese companies build the Kemin–Torugart and Barskoon–Bedel power lines

Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev paid a working visit to the People's Republic of China from 21 to 27 October, where he took part in the 10th International Green Energy Forum in Suzhou.

Speaking at the forum, the minister emphasised that Kyrgyzstan is currently the leader in terms of the share of ‘clean’ hydropower in Central Asia, as about 90% of the country's total power generation comes from hydropower plants. He noted that in recent years, the republic has been actively introducing renewable energy technologies and implementing large-scale projects in collaboration with Chinese partners.

"Chinese companies are already participating in the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,100 KGS and a wind farm with a capacity of 300 KGS. In addition, China has considerable experience in modernising our hydroelectric power plants — Toktogul, Uch-Korgon and At-Bashin. Among them are such world-renowned companies as China Road and Bridge Corporation, TBEA, Dongfang Electric and CNEEC. We invite international partners and financial institutions to cooperate in the development of green energy in Kyrgyzstan,‘ said Taalaibek Ibraev.

During the visit, Ibraev met with the heads of OJSC ’NESK", OJSC ‘ES’ and OJSC ‘Kyrgyzkumur’ with the Director General of the State Energy Administration of the PRC Wang Hongzhi, Chief Economist of the State Energy Administration Lu Junlin and representatives of the Renewable Energy Agency. The parties discussed deepening cooperation in the energy and coal sectors, implementing joint projects, and attracting investors to Kyrgyzstan.

The Kyrgyz side presented proposals for the construction of the 500 kV Kemin-Torugart and 200 kV Barskoon-Bedel power lines, as well as joint projects in the field of solar and wind energy.

The Chinese Minister of Energy expressed his willingness to support these initiatives and promised the assistance of Chinese private companies in the implementation of new projects. After the talks, the delegations visited an exhibition of advanced technologies organised as part of the forum.
