The project is being implemented as part of the Ministry of Energy's efforts to provide the population with high-quality and sustainable electricity, strengthen the country's energy security, and make effective use of its hydropower potential.
The Kambarata-1 hydroelectric power plant is of strategic importance for both Kyrgyzstan and the entire region. Due to its scale and expected economic impact, the facility has already been unofficially dubbed the “project of the century.” Once construction is complete, the plant will become the country's largest hydropower facility with an installed capacity of 1,860 MW. This will significantly increase the republic's energy independence, reduce the electricity deficit in winter, and create a basis for long-term economic growth.
Large-scale preparatory work is currently underway in the mountainous area of the Jalal-Abad region. In fact, the infrastructure complex necessary to begin hydrotechnical construction is being built from scratch. This includes laying power lines, building roads, constructing a bridge across the Naryn River, creating a shift camp for builders, and implementing other engineering solutions.
According to the Ministry of Energy, a significant amount of work has already been completed:
