The business activity index in Kyrgyzstan exceeded the figures for the EU, Japan, the UK, and Russia

In Kyrgyzstan, another Business Activity Index (PMI) study has been completed, prepared by the Guarantee Fund in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance. According to the published data, the index value in October was 58.5 points. This is significantly higher than the level of most developed and comparable economies.

At the end of October, Kyrgyzstan was ahead of the Eurozone (50 points), the United Kingdom (49.7), Japan (48.2), Germany (49.6), and Russia (48).

The study involved 946 enterprises representing small, medium, and large businesses. The survey covered all regions of the republic:

  • 83% of respondents were from regions including Talas, Batken, Naryn, Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Chui, and Osh;
  • 17% were from Bishkek and Osh.

The industry profile was formed mainly by agriculture (45%) and trade (21%). Services accounted for 16% of the sample, industry for 8%, and transport and construction for 5% each.

The PMI is based on an assessment of new orders, production volumes, employment levels, delivery times, inventory dynamics, and financial conditions. A value above 50 points indicates an expansion of business activity, while a value below 50 points indicates a contraction.

The resulting 58.5 points indicate steady economic growth and continued optimism among entrepreneurs.

Similar PMI surveys were conducted in October 2024 and March 2025. In both cases, the index was higher than the current one, at 61.5 and 60.9, respectively. Thus, despite the high indicator, the country is still experiencing a slowdown in business activity.

Nevertheless, in a global comparison, Kyrgyzstan's PMI is second only to a few fast-growing economies: India (59.2) and Saudi Arabia (60.2). Most countries showed values in the range of 47-52 points, indicating a lack of significant growth.

Thus, based on the results for October, Kyrgyzstan can be safely ranked among the few countries with the highest rates of business activity.
