The Cabinet of Ministers will be able to declare additional public holidays in certain regions of Kyrgyzstan

President Sadyr Zhaparov has signed a decree allowing the Cabinet of Ministers to temporarily introduce additional public holidays in certain parts of Kyrgyzstan.

The new mechanism will operate on a pilot basis from 15 July 2026 to 1 July 2027.

Under the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers will be able, in consultation with local authorities, to declare public holidays whilst ensuring that employees’ average daily wages are maintained. Such a decision may be taken where it is necessary to create favourable conditions for the population, to hold international or national events, or in the event of other exceptional circumstances requiring an immediate response.

However, these additional days off will not be introduced nationwide, but only in those areas where the need arises.

The government is required to coordinate the relevant decisions with the local authorities of the areas to which they will apply.

The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration has been tasked with monitoring the results of the new mechanism’s implementation by 1 February 2027. If the trial is deemed successful, the Ministry must prepare proposals for the relevant legislative amendments by 1 March 2027.
