01/26/2026, 17:14Kyrgyzstan needs to introduce restrictions on the cost of education. This was stated today at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Finance, Budget, Entrepreneurship and Competition Development by MP Kamila Talieva.
According to her, over the past two years, prices for contracts at universities have risen sharply. As a result, parents of students regularly contact parliamentarians about the high cost of contracts.
In response, Zhenaly Orozbayev, director of the State Agency for Antimonopoly Regulation, said that the agency is currently proposing measures to control pricing at universities. Until 2016, Orozbayev noted, the Antimonopoly Service had the relevant powers.
However, he said that the agency still has the right to verify the validity of the cost of services provided by universities.
"During the analysis of prices in a number of higher education institutions, inconsistencies were identified. According to our estimates, the National University must return 23 million KGS, as the funds under the contracts were received unlawfully. A similar order has been issued to the Academy of Public Administration under the President named after Zhusup Abdrakhmanov, which must return 13 million KGS", — he said.
