Kyrgyzstan and the FAO discussed new projects worth $35 million in the agricultural sector

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Edil Akunbekov held a meeting with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, Oleg Tajmamatovich. The parties discussed current cooperation and prospects for the development of the country’s agro-industrial complex.

The Minister noted the FAO’s contribution to the development of agriculture in Kyrgyzstan, including projects in the areas of sustainable natural resource management and food security. According to him, cooperation with the organisation is systematic in nature and covers key areas of agricultural policy.

Currently, 13 FAO national projects are being implemented in the country, with a total value of around $35 million. These are aimed at developing livestock farming and horticulture, supporting organic agriculture, water resource management, the digitalisation of the sector, biosafety and attracting green investment. Kyrgyzstan also participates in a number of the organisation’s regional and global initiatives.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their intention to expand their partnership, with a focus on the sustainable development of agriculture and improving the quality of life for the population.
