07/14/2026, 14:00Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have commenced the practical phase of demarcating the state border. The first four boundary markers were erected at the point where the borders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan meet.
On 14 July 2026, representatives of the two countries jointly began erecting boundary markers as part of the next stage of demarcation work.
The total length of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border is 1,008.14 km. During their joint work, the parties have already surveyed approximately 416 km of the border line and identified locations for the installation of 1,627 boundary markers (1,954 posts).
The work is being carried out as part of the implementation of the agreements reached following the signing on 13 March 2025 in Bishkek of the Treaty between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the State Border.
As part of the current phase, representatives of the two countries have erected the first four boundary posts on the section starting from the tripoint where the borders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan meet.
The process of delimiting the Kyrgyz-Tajik border began in December 2002 and was fully completed more than 20 years later. The parties note that the formalisation of the border should strengthen security and create conditions for the development of cross-border cooperation.
