Kyrgyzstan and Japan discussed cooperation in the field of critical minerals

Kyrgyzstan and Japan intend to expand cooperation in the fields of natural resources, environmental protection and climate change. This was announced following a meeting on 14 August between Akyl Toktobaev, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, and Eri Arfia, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

One of the key issues was cooperation in the field of critical minerals. The parties discussed the exchange of expertise, technological cooperation and opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in this area. They also discussed the development of human resources and scientific and technical cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). The parties also explored opportunities for applying Japanese technologies to improve air quality and combat pollution.

In addition, the participants discussed the sustainable development of mountainous areas, adaptation to climate change, the conservation of natural ecosystems and the development of ecotourism. Following the meeting, Kyrgyzstan and Japan reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening practical cooperation in the fields of natural resources, the environment and sustainable development.

  • More than half of the planned grain-growing area has been harvested in Kyrgyzstan

    The harvest is continuing in Kyrgyzstan. To date, 352.7 thousand hectares of grain crops have been harvested, representing 57.1 per cent of the planned 617 thousand hectares. This is 25,900 hectares more than during the same period last year. 985,100 tonnes of grain have already been delivered to grain storage facilities, and the total gross harvest has increased by 6.9 per cent. The average yield stands at 27.6 centners per hectare.
