Kyrgyzstan has ‘found’ a further $865 million in foreign trade

Following the revision of the figures for 2025, Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade turnover increased by almost $865 million. In its preliminary statistics, the National Statistics Committee had estimated it at $15.83 billion; however, in the final calculation, the figure rose to $16.69 billion.

All the ‘discovered’ funds were attributable exclusively to trade with EAEU countries. Following the revision, the volume of trade with the EAEU rose from $5.92 billion to $6.79 billion — an increase of $864.4 million. The figures for trading partners outside the union remained unchanged.

The bulk of the adjustment relates to Kazakhstan. Trade turnover with the neighbouring country was revised upwards by $537.1 million – from $1.87 billion to $2.41 billion. The figure for trade with Russia increased by a further $259.2 million – to $4.11 billion.

The revision also affected the other partners in the union:

• trade with Belarus was increased by $64 million, to $270.5 million;
• trade with Armenia was increased by $4.2 million, to $7.7 million.

However, the majority of the additional trade recorded turned out to be imports. The estimate for imports was increased by $693.6 million – from $12.97 billion to $13.67 billion. Exports were revised upwards by $170.8 million – to $3.02 billion.

Due to the more substantial growth in imports, Kyrgyzstan’s trade deficit turned out to be deeper than originally thought. Following the revision, it rose from $10.12 billion to $10.64 billion.

The overall figure for the year has also changed. Preliminary data had shown a 10.2 per cent decline in foreign trade, but following the recalculation, the decline amounted to just 5.3 per cent. At the same time, it emerged that imports had risen not by 3.9 per cent, but by 9.4 per cent. Trade directly with the EAEU grew by 23.4 per cent, rather than the preliminary figure of 7.7 per cent.
