Kyrgyzstan is fully prepared for winter: hydroelectric power plant and thermal power plant capacities increased

All hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants and power grids in the country have been upgraded and are ready for the autumn-winter period of 2025–2026.

Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev announced that preparations for winter have been completed.

  • The Toktogul hydroelectric power plant increased its capacity from 1,200 MW to 1,440 MW after replacing all of its hydroelectric units.
  • The Uch-Korgon HPP added 18 MW after upgrading two units, with the remaining two units to be replaced in 2026;
  • The Tash-Kumyr, Kambarata, Kurpsai and Shamaldysai HPPs have been repaired;
  • The Bishkek and Osh thermal power plants are ready for the heating season.

More than 1,300 km of high-voltage lines and almost 3,100 km of low-voltage lines have been repaired in the power grids, and four transformers and substations have been completely upgraded.

According to Torobaev, the country's energy infrastructure has been strengthened and the population will receive a stable supply of heat and electricity.
