Kyrgyzstan received 1.8 billion KGS from donors, but aid from foreign governments has declined

In January–April, Kyrgyzstan received 1.75 billion KGS in official transfers from abroad. Compared to the same period last year, the volume of grant aid decreased by 99.8 million KGS, or 5.4%.

According to the Ministry of Finance, virtually all of the inflows came from transfers from international organizations. In the first four months of this year, they transferred 1.67 billion KGS to Kyrgyzstan, which is 110.8 million KGS, or 7.1%, more than a year earlier.

At the same time, the volume of aid from foreign governments fell sharply. While in January–April 2025 their governments sent 294.9 million KGS to Kyrgyzstan, during the same period in 2026, the figure was only 84.4 million KGS.

Thus, receipts from foreign governments decreased by 210.6 million KGS, or nearly 71%. Their share of total official transfers fell from 15.9% to 4.8%.

As a result, international organizations have effectively become the main source of external grant aid to Kyrgyzstan. They account for more than 95% of all official transfers received by the country since the beginning of the year.
