Kyrgyzstan to build a KRSU campus for 15,000 students with Russian support

The Parliamentary Committee on Science, Education, Innovative Development, Culture, Sport and Youth Affairs has approved, at first reading, a bill ratifying the agreement with Russia on the construction of the campus of the B.N. Yeltsin Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.

The agreement provides for the construction of campus facilities using funds from the Russian federal budget, the allocation by Kyrgyzstan of a plot of land of at least 30 hectares, and the connection of the facilities to utility networks. The campus, which will be located in the village of Baitik, is designed to accommodate 15,000 students and will include academic buildings, halls of residence, a medical cluster and a comprehensive educational infrastructure.

Information on the draft law was presented by Bekbosun Borubashev, Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovation, whilst University Rector Sergey Volkov answered MPs’ questions regarding the activities of the Kyrgyz-Russian State University.

MPs discussed the terms of the agreement, including issues relating to construction, educational standards, the number of state-funded places and the employment of graduates in Russia.
