The parties discussed the main areas of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation in the agricultural sector, including fisheries, livestock breeding and the supply of mineral fertilisers.
The Kyrgyz side proposed exploring the possibility of granting annual quotas for the catch of aquatic biological resources in Russia’s exclusive economic zone. According to Erlist Akunbekov, this would help to develop fish processing and domestic aquaculture. Kyrgyzstan expects to complete the necessary procedures and sign the relevant protocol during the fisheries forum in St Petersburg in September.
Furthermore, Kyrgyzstan is interested in the supply of up to 20,000 head of pedigree cattle and in expanding cooperation in the field of pedigree small ruminants. Separately, the parties discussed increasing supplies of Russian mineral fertilisers and concluding direct long-term contracts with producers to ensure a stable supply for Kyrgyz farmers. Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue working on joint projects.
