03/25/2026, 17:00Talks took place today in Bishkek between the Kyrgyz authorities and the European Union regarding the removal of the country’s airlines from the EU aviation safety list.
Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev discussed the matter with the Chair of the EU Aviation Safety Committee, Peter Sørensen, in the presence of EU Ambassador Remi Duflot. The main topic was further cooperation and compliance with EU requirements to lift the restrictions.
During the talks, it was noted that significant changes have taken place in Kyrgyzstan’s aviation sector in recent years. The establishment of the State Civil Aviation Agency has enabled tighter control, the implementation of ICAO international standards and improvements to the flight safety system.
The results achieved were highlighted separately: an increase in passenger traffic from 3.9 million to over 6 million people, a 53% rise in the number of flights, and the modernisation of all 11 of the country’s airports. Furthermore, Kyrgyzstan has begun renewing its aircraft fleet – two Airbus A321s have already been purchased and further expansion of the fleet is planned.
The European side gave a positive assessment of Kyrgyzstan’s progress and noted active cooperation with the country’s aviation authorities. However, the final decision on removal from the blacklist will be taken at a meeting of the EU Committee in May 2026.
