Kyrgyzstan will be able to meet its demand for petrol and diesel following the modernisation of two oil refineries

Kyrgyzstan will be able to fully meet domestic demand for petrol and diesel following the completion of the modernisation of two oil refineries — ‘Junda’ and ‘Kyrgyz Petroleum Company’. This was announced by Daniyar Amangeldiev, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, in an interview with Azattyk.

According to him, the modernisation of the Junda refinery is due to be completed in 2027. Once modernised, the facility will be able to produce around 800,000 tonnes of K-5 standard petrol per year. It is planned to source crude oil from Russia and other countries to operate the refinery. According to Amangeldiev, the relevant supply agreements have already been concluded.

In addition, modernisation work is continuing at the ‘Kyrgyz Petroleum Company’ refinery, owned by ‘Kyrgyzneftegaz’. $480 million has been allocated from the budget for this work. Once the project is completed in 2028, the facility will be able to produce up to 500,000 tonnes of petroleum products per year.

The First Deputy Prime Minister noted that once both refineries are operating at full capacity, Kyrgyzstan will be able to meet its own needs for the main types of fuel. At the same time, imports of fuel and lubricants will continue.

According to him, increasing domestic production will help stabilise prices for petrol and diesel on the domestic market.
