Kyrgyzstan has simplified visa and work procedures for foreigners – new rules introduced

A new procedure for issuing visas and permits to foreigners came into force in Kyrgyzstan on 30 April. All procedures have been consolidated into a single document and partially simplified.

This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. The changes were approved by a Cabinet of Ministers decree as part of the implementation of a presidential decree.

The procedures for obtaining visas, the Single Work Permit and the Resident Card have now been consolidated into a single Temporary Regulation. Applications can be submitted via the ‘Electronic Visa’ portal.

One of the key innovations is that the Single Permit is now issued as an initial document valid for up to 60 days. After this, a residence card is issued if necessary.
Visa categories have also been clarified: tourist and business visas have been distinguished, the rules for work visas have been updated, and a free emergency exit visa has been introduced – in the event of serious ill health.

At the same time, requirements for employers have been tightened. They are now obliged to ensure the departure of a foreign worker upon termination of the employment contract. Companies may be placed on a register of unscrupulous entities for violations.
In addition, it is now possible to obtain a Single Permit urgently for an additional fee.

The changes are aimed at simplifying migration procedures and strengthening control over labour migration.

Previously, the processing of visas, work permits and residence cards was governed by separate documents. The new procedure combines them into a single system and moves the main processes online.
