Kyrgyzstan has become one of the EAEU’s leaders in air cargo transportation

Kyrgyzstan has emerged as one of the largest participants in the Eurasian Economic Union in terms of air cargo volume. For the period from January to March, the country recorded one of the highest air cargo turnover figures among the union’s member states, second only to Russia.

According to data from the Eurasian Economic Commission, Kyrgyzstan’s air cargo turnover in March amounted to 45 million ton-kilometers. By comparison, Kazakhstan recorded only 13.4 million, and Armenia—8.8 million ton-kilometers during the same period.

At the same time, Russia remains the absolute market leader with 371.3 million ton-kilometers.

It is interesting to note that in terms of air cargo volume, Kyrgyzstan significantly outpaces many countries in the union, despite its relatively small economy and domestic market size. As early as January, the republic’s figure stood at 29.9 million ton-kilometers, in February—31 million, and in March it continued to grow to 45 million.

Overall, the EAEU’s total freight turnover across all modes of transport reached 1 trillion 516.7 billion ton-kilometers in March. Russia traditionally made the largest contribution to the volume of freight traffic. In March, it accounted for 1 trillion 364.4 billion ton-kilometers of freight turnover—nearly 90% of the EAEU’s total. Kazakhstan ranks second with 133 billion ton-kilometers.

Kyrgyzstan remains one of the smallest participants in the Union in terms of freight volumes. In March, the republic’s freight turnover amounted to 900 million ton-kilometers, compared to 600 million in February and 300 million in January.

The bulk of the volume was accounted for by pipeline and rail transport. For this mode of transport alone, freight turnover in January–March amounted to 682.2 billion, excluding Belarus. Of this, Russia accounted for 640.1 billion ton-kilometers.

Rail freight transport in the EAEU reached 681.5 billion ton-kilometers by the end of March. Here, too, Russia leads with 600.4 billion, while Kazakhstan accounted for 80.7 billion ton-kilometers.

Road freight turnover in the union amounted to 97.2 billion ton-kilometers. Kazakhstan recorded 11 billion ton-kilometers, and Kyrgyzstan—400 million.
