Kyrgyzstan flooded with roubles, with almost 24 billion more transferred

Kyrgyz citizens abroad continue to be a significant financial support for the country. In April–June alone, 82 billion KGS were transferred to the republic. This is two-thirds more than a year ago. At the same time, the number of transfers also jumped by more than 73%.

Money flows into Kyrgyzstan primarily from Russia. Transfers in roubles accounted for 64.3 billion roubles — more than 80% of the total volume. Moreover, the volume grew by 59.6%. The American currency holds second place. Transfers in US dollars grew by 2.2% in volume, although the number of transactions itself decreased. As a result, Kyrgyz citizens received 115.1 million US dollars.

Kyrgyz citizens received about 7.5 million euros, but sent twice as much. There was no incoming money in tenge, but outgoing transfers still went through, albeit on a smaller scale.

Where do these billions end up in the country? The picture is predictable — Bishkek and the Osh region collect the bulk of the money. The capital accounts for a third of all inflows and more than 70% of outgoing transfers. The Osh region confidently holds almost a third of the incoming funds.

Earlier, Akchabar, citing the National Statistics Committee, wrote that without remittances from migrants, poverty in the Batken region would exceed 65.5%, where remittances from migrants account for 42.6% of all income from labour, in the Osh region — 37.7%, and 36.8% in the Jalal-Abad region. In the Issyk-Kul region, the figure was 17.5%, and in the city of Osh, 21.7%.

At the same time, excluding the income of labour migrants, the extreme poverty rate could rise from 2.7% to 16.4%.
