Kyrgyzstan expects record budget surplus in 2027–2028

For the first time in many years, Kyrgyzstan is forecasting a significant surplus in the republican budget. According to the draft law ‘On the Republican Budget,’ revenues will amount to 551.2 billion KGS in 2026, which is 28.1% more than in the approved budget for 2025.

However, a truly historic result is expected in 2027–2028. In these years, republican budget revenues are projected at 593.1 billion and 641.1 billion KGS, respectively, while expenditures will amount to 552.4 billion and 589.3 billion KGS.

Thus, in 2027, the budget surplus will amount to 40.7 billion KGS, and in 2028, a record 51.7 billion KGS. For comparison, in 2026, the surplus is planned at 436 million KGS (0.02% of GDP).

The government intends to allocate additional funds to economic development and the fulfilment of state obligations. In other words, the surplus will become an important source of funding for long-term reforms and infrastructure projects.
