10/28/2026, 14:49Kyrgyzstan is expanding its imports of petroleum products from China. The first shipment, totaling 1,500 metric tons, arrived in the country by rail, according to Kanatbek Eshatov, president of the Association of Oil Traders.
According to him, in August, the Cabinet of Ministers organized a meeting with major Chinese producers, which was also attended by representatives of Kyrgyz companies. Following this, work began on establishing direct contracts and shipments from China.
Previously, Kyrgyzstan imported about 95% of its fuel and lubricants from Russia. However, a decline in supply and challenges in international markets forced companies to seek alternative suppliers, including in China, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Turkey.
According to Eshatov, the fuel supply situation is now gradually stabilizing. The country’s diesel fuel reserves amount to about two months’ worth of consumption, while gasoline reserves last less than a month.
Since May, the Cabinet of Ministers has been subsidizing retail prices for petroleum products. As a result, domestic market prices are fixed until the end of 2026. The decision on prices for next year will depend on how the market situation develops.
