China continues to be one of the main partners for the KR - President

Ahead of his state visit to China, President Sadyr Zhaparov gave an exclusive interview to the leading Chinese news agency Xinhua. The head of state spoke in detail about key aspects of Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation, promising areas of bilateral interaction and strategic partnership between the two countries.

The President stressed the special significance of the upcoming visit aimed at strengthening political dialogue, developing trade and economic ties and expanding cultural and humanitarian exchange. He noted that in recent years relations between Kyrgyzstan and China have reached the level of comprehensive strategic partnership, which has become an important milestone in the history of bilateral ties.

The interview focused on the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, including the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which was officially launched in December 2024. This project, according to the President, will become a strategic flagship of cooperation, contributing to the development of the regions and strengthening the transit potential of Kyrgyzstan.

The head of state also praised the dynamics of trade and economic co-operation. In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries reached a record $22.71 billion. The President expressed confidence that further development of cross-border trade, opening of new checkpoints and implementation of joint projects in agriculture, energy and logistics will contribute to the growth of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Separately, Sadyr Zhaparov noted China's contribution to the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and expressed support for the priorities of the Chinese presidency in the organisation. He stressed that the upcoming SCO summit in 2025 will be an important step in strengthening the organisation's role in the global arena.

The President also shared his expectations from the upcoming visit to China, which will include meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and participation in the opening ceremony of the Asian Winter Games in Harbin. The head of state expressed confidence that the visit would strengthen the strategic partnership and open new horizons for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China.
