Kyrgyzstan has proposed to Malaysia that the joint commission be reinstated amid a sixfold increase in trade

Kyrgyzstan proposed to Malaysia that the Kyrgyz-Malaysian Special Joint Commission resume its work and that direct contacts between businesses in the two countries be developed more actively. The initiative came against the backdrop of a nearly sixfold increase in bilateral trade in 2025.

On September 24, Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Hangzhou on the sidelines of the fifth World Digital Trade Expo.

During the talks, the parties discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Kasymaliev noted that last year, bilateral trade between Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia increased nearly sixfold. Against this backdrop, the Kyrgyz side proposed exploring new areas for trade and more actively involving government agencies and business communities from both countries in cooperation.

Separately, the Prime Minister proposed resuming the work of the Kyrgyz-Malaysian Special Joint Commission, which is intended to serve as a platform for promoting specific trade and investment projects.

Anwar Ibrahim, in turn, expressed Malaysia’s readiness to continue developing cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in areas of mutual interest.

The parties also recalled Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Kyrgyzstan in 2024 and President Sadyr Japarov’s trip to Malaysia in 2025, emphasizing the need to move from the agreements reached to their practical implementation.
