Kyrgyzstan to create over a million square metres of warehouse space to support digital commerce

Kyrgyzstan is focusing on developing its logistics infrastructure as a key factor in entering global markets. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Sultan Akhmatov at a panel session of the Eastern Economic Forum entitled ‘Making Local Global: Digital Platforms as a Driver of Non-Commodity Export Growth.’

According to him, the development of e-commerce has become a strategic direction for export diversification and an important tool for supporting small and medium-sized businesses. However, in order for digital trade to develop fully, the country needs modern infrastructure.

As part of the Development Programme until 2030, Kyrgyzstan plans to build at least one million square metres of warehouse space. This will provide entrepreneurs with access to modern logistics services and reduce the costs of entering foreign markets.

An additional stimulus for development will be provided by the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which will open up new routes for international freight traffic.

In conjunction with these initiatives, Kyrgyzstan and Wildberries have launched a project to build a modern logistics centre. According to experts, such solutions will increase the volume of e-commerce in the country by approximately 14% annually.

‘The Kyrgyz Republic is consistently developing its digital trade infrastructure and is open to cooperation with international partners,’ emphasised Sultan Akhmatov, adding that the formation of a logistics base and the expansion of warehouse capacity will form the basis for the growth of non-resource exports and integration into global trade chains.
