Active field work is currently continuing in the republic. Crops have been sown on an area of 1 million 245.6 thousand hectares, which is 99.4% of the total arable land.
Despite an overall reduction in arable land by 0.1% (1,100 hectares), the area under wheat increased by 7,100 hectares or 2.9% to 247,600 hectares. Barley crops covered 249,300 hectares, which is 0.5% more than last year.
The area under corn increased by 1.5% to 111.6 thousand hectares. The area under vegetables also increased by 1.8 thousand hectares (to 46.1 thousand hectares) and melons and gourds by 1.07 thousand hectares (to 10 thousand hectares). Sugar beet crops increased by 1.3 thousand hectares to 12.8 thousand hectares. Oilseeds have been sown on 71.3% of the planned area.
State support for farmers continues. Under the ‘Agricultural Financing-13’ programme, preferential loans totalling 3.55 billion KGS have already been issued to more than 5,700 agricultural producers. The bulk of the support went to livestock farming (2.89 billion KGS), crop production received 430.7 million KGS, water-saving technologies — 16.1 million KGS, and equipment leasing — 211.4 million KGS. The project involves Ayil Bank and Eldik Bank with total financing of 5 billion KGS.
We would like to add that agriculture's contribution to GDP was 0.22 percentage points, and its share in the republic's economy remains at 5.5%.
