09/08/2026, 09:02The Mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Dzhunushaliev, has ordered an audit of the expenditure on each site that has been repaired or refurbished as part of the capital’s preparations for major international events. The audit is intended to establish whether the costs correspond to the actual scope of work carried out.
This concerns funds allocated for the repair of roads, pavements and other road infrastructure, the refurbishment of building façades, landscaping, street lighting and urban improvements.
The instruction was issued following a meeting at which the results of Bishkek’s preparations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, the 6th World Nomad Games and events marking the 35th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s independence were reviewed.
The mayor demanded that every site, financial documents and certificates of completion be checked.
“Unjustified overcharging for works is not permitted. All works must be justified and comply with legal requirements,” stated Dzhunushaliyev.
If the audit reveals violations that cannot be rectified within the municipality’s remit, the case files will be forwarded to the law enforcement authorities. However, officials remain accountable for the targeted and effective use of budget funds.
