The city council has revealed what the cultural center will look like on the site of the burned-down Chatyr-Kule

The Bishkek City Hall has prepared a preliminary design for a modern cultural center, which will be built on the site of the former Chatyr-Kul cinema. This was reported by the municipality.

Currently, the Capital Construction Department has fenced off the area and begun dismantling the old building. The project is being implemented after a fire that occurred on November 5 last year. At that time, the mayor visited the site and instructed to speed up the decision on the future of the facility.

The Chatyr-Kul cinema was opened in 1967 in the Botanical residential area (now Toktonaliev Street). It was designed to seat 600 viewers and served the new neighborhoods of the city. Over time, the building ceased to be used for its intended purpose. In 2010, it was transferred to the state youth theater “Uchur,” but no major repairs were ever carried out. By the time of the fire, the facility was in a dilapidated state and was effectively empty.

After demolition, a new cultural center is planned to be built on the site. Design work is currently underway, and the parameters and timing of implementation will be specified after the documentation is finalized.
