The city government has suggested giving out plots of land for apartment buildings and setting up a fair waiting list for housing with flexible mortgage terms. This idea has been backed by the country's leaders.
Already, 18 families whose homes were demolished during the reconstruction of the Northern Bypass Road have received apartments through the GIK. Work is continuing on 13 others.
In the first seven months of 2025, more than 6,300 illegal structures were demolished in the capital, freeing up over 80,000 square meters of municipal land. The authorities emphasize that in restoring order, they are trying not to leave people homeless and are resolving each case individually.
