Ministry of Energy: it is not yet possible to give advance warning of specific power cuts

Energy Minister Altynbek Rysbekov explained why the ministry is unable to publish precise schedules for temporary power restrictions in advance.

According to him, the current restrictions are not due to planned power cuts, but to the need for rapid load management in response to a sharp rise in consumption.

“We cannot say exactly in which area and at what time consumption will surge. If these were scheduled power cuts, we would be able to provide a schedule in advance”, — the minister noted.

He explained that the electricity supply to areas depends on the operation of individual feeders at substations. A single feeder may supply several streets, a settlement or a specific neighbourhood.

At present, dispatch centres analyse the load on the grid every half hour and make decisions based on the situation.

The minister also noted that, following a drop in temperature, the load on the power system has decreased.
