Ministry of Finance completes acquisition of controlling stake in KSE

On 15 September, the Ministry of Finance officially completed the process of acquiring a controlling stake in the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange. As of today, the ministry owns 62.17% of the exchange's shares. This was announced by Aida Chodulova, acting president of the KSE, at a press conference on 23 September.

This step was the result of a process launched in November 2022 by a decree of Sadyr Zhaparov, which outlined the tasks of modernising the exchange infrastructure and forming national institutions capable of supporting priority state projects.

The process took place in several stages. First, in April this year, at the annual general meeting of KFB shareholders, a decision was made to increase the authorised capital. In July, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Finance to allocate funds and buy out the additional issue of shares. Finally, on 15 September, the financial market regulator registered the results of the issue, confirming the state's participation in the exchange's capital.

Now, with a controlling stake, the state will be able to directly influence the development of the stock market infrastructure and attract investment. The strengthening of the role of the Ministry of Finance will create conditions for expanding opportunities for business and investors, attracting long-term capital and implementing large-scale state and strategic projects through the stock market.

Thus, the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange is entering a new stage of development, and the state is gaining a tool for more active participation in the formation of the country's financial market.
