The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Energy signed a memorandum on training professional energy specialists

Today, 18 August, a pedagogical forum kicked off in Osh — the main event of the year in the field of education. This year, one of the key news items of the forum was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the ministries of education and energy.

This memorandum opens a new page in the training of skilled workers for one of the country's strategically important industries — energy. Today, this sector is undergoing a phase of active development: new hydroelectric power plants are being built, existing energy facilities are being modernised, and large-scale infrastructure projects are being implemented. All this requires a large number of specialists capable of working with modern equipment and technologies.

The memorandum provides for a whole range of measures. These include synchronising educational programmes with the needs of the energy sector, updating curricula to take account of advanced technologies, and expanding practical training for students.  There are plans to organise work placements at energy companies for vocational school students so that they can gain real skills and experience while still studying. Particular attention is being paid to improving the qualifications of teachers and vocational training instructors so that the knowledge they pass on is up to date and in demand.

The expected results are an increase in the number of qualified specialists, an improvement in the quality of training for workers and a reduction in the gap between training programmes and employers' requirements. It will be easier for vocational school graduates to find jobs in their profession, and the energy sector will receive an influx of trained personnel.

Today, Kyrgyzstan's initial vocational education system comprises 93 educational institutions with approximately 26,000 students, representing about 7% of young people aged 15-17. Training is provided in 120 occupations, including light industry, IT, construction and energy.
Training for the energy sector is showing steady growth: while 721 people graduated in 2023, this number increased to 853 in 2024, and in 2025, 1,093 students completed their training. Specialists for the energy sector are trained at 24 vocational colleges, where curricula are regularly updated and supplemented, and close cooperation with enterprises ensures internships and helps graduates quickly adapt to real working conditions.
