A fraudster posing as an Interior Ministry official extorted $2,000 and was detained by the State Committee for National Security

The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic reported the detention of citizen Ch.R.Zh., who introduced himself as an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and extorted money from citizen Zh.A.Zh.

According to the State Committee for National Security, Ch.R.Zh. fraudulently obtained $500 by threatening the applicant with alleged influence on the investigation in the Sverdlovsk district of Bishkek. In addition, he demanded an additional $2,000 to ‘resolve the issue.’

On 18 February, as part of a criminal case under Article 343 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (extortion of a bribe), Ch.R.Zh. was detained while receiving 45,000 KGS. After his arrest, he was taken to the State Security Service and placed in a temporary detention centre.

Investigative and operational measures are continuing to identify other possible persons involved.
