09/17/2026, 16:19Since the start of 2026, food prices in Kyrgyzstan have risen by 6.4 per cent. The most significant factor within the food basket has been the rise in meat prices, which have increased by 16.3 per cent.
According to statisticians, the meat sector contributed 2.14 percentage points to the overall rise in food prices. This accounts for more than 80 per cent of the total increase in food prices.
Both domestic and external factors influence the cost of meat. In Kyrgyzstan, during the summer and autumn months, the supply of fresh meat is affected by the seasonal transhumance of livestock to pastures. At the same time, livestock farmers face high costs for feed and transport.
Meat prices have also risen on the global market. In August, the FAO Food Price Index for meat rose by 1.0 per cent compared with July. However, the situation varied across different types of meat: prices for poultry, pork and lamb rose, whilst beef prices fell.
